The WAIS-IV is the industry standard test to measure adult intelligence. The purpose of the WAIS-IV is to develop a better understanding of an individual’s cognitive abilities and profile. It provides an estimate of general intellectual functioning. A cognitive assessment is also often used when assessing for intellectual impairment.

Assessment Process
  • Initial Consultation: This is a 1-hour intake consultation focused on obtaining relevant background information. A functional assessment, the ABAS-3, is also often used to assess for adaptive living skills.
  • Cognitive Assessment: The WAIS-IV is administered during a 2-hour appointment to assess for general intelligence.
  • Psychologist Report: A comprehensive report based on 3-4 hours of clinical time is provided with results and recommendations.
