Post-traumatic stress disorder is a disorder that occurs in people who may have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. Unfortunately, there are many types of incidents that could lead to the development of trauma and PTSD. Part of trauma therapy often involves unpacking your symptoms. Symptoms  are often grouped into four types:

  • Intrusive memories: These may include recurrent and undesired memories of the event.
  • Negative changes in mood and thinking: This may include a sense of hopelessness about the future, feeling detached from family and friends etc. 
  • Avoidance: This may include avoiding people, places and activities that bring back memories of the event, or trying to avoid thinking or talking about the event itself.
  • Changes in physical and emotional reactions: which include being easily startled, constantly feeling on guard for danger, and trouble sleeping or concentrating.
